I've been trying to get my 10 year daughter into reading, and just couldn't find anything to capture her attention....until now. She LOVES this book and plans to reread it when she's finished. She's in her 5th year of bow hunting and this might as well have been written about her life; it caught her attention right away. We are from Michigan, we have the not so nice way to hunting obsessed cranky neighbor, a farmer friend close by like the characters in the book. She felt like she could relate to everything right down to the adrenaline rush of seeing that big buck and making the shot. I am just so thrilled to find a book on her reading level, that she enjoys so much! Highly recommend and have recommended it to others mamas for their youth hunters as well.
My son, a second grader, is loving reading these. We do a mix of reading to him and him to us. The books are engaging, wholesome & well written and he now picks it up to read on his own without us telling him to go read. He actually looks forward to reading!! Well done.
My daughter just finished reading this book to her little brother, as she really enjoyed it as she said it was more like real life when it comes to hunting. How the boy got buck fever and actually missed his first buck which is often the case, but was a great ending when he actually got the legendary “Ghost Buck”. She can’t wait for her other little brother to be able to read these in his own when he is older!
Thank you for this incredible series. It is always a challenge to find books that will encourage my 11 yr old son to read. I’ve never seen him so captivated in a fictional story until we ordered the Hometown Hunter series. I even caught him reading at midnight with a flashlight because he couldn’t put it down?! He read book #2 first then he was almost through book #1 (Legend of the Ghost Buck) when I had to take it away! He finished it the next morning. I can’t wait for his friends to read it and watch their reactions.
